ABOUT THE PLAY

At a large, tastefully-appointed Sneden's Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room, and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken, and wife, Chris, must get "the story" straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

MEET THE CAST

A DIRECTOR'S NOTE

by Angela Lavelle

I can't even begin to describe what Neil Simon did for me growing up. For some people Harry Potter was an escape from the world they lived in, for me it was Neil Simon's plays. I drowned myself reading, dreaming and imagining what it would look like on stage. In 7th & 8th grade I would gather all my friends and cast them in his plays and perform them in my parents’ living room. In highschool I begged my teacher to direct one in our theatre class, and all that pleading paid off because it totally ended up happening! I was obsessed (still am). Fresh and new to LA, I was determined to still put on his plays and ended up doing two of his shows in a row. My first one was Laughter on the 23rd Floor, then Rumors! It is astounding to look back on it 10 years ago. When I did Rumors the first time a decade ago, it was such a whirlwind time in my life. I was living in Hollywood, became homeless for two weeks, and even had a bout with scabies which ended up spreading to the entire cast (don't worry, it was thankfully treated). With all that craziness, I didn't have my own place for rehearsals so we used my friend's backyard as rehearsal space too, rain or shine! We also had to replace at least 8 actors in the show which was so stressful at the time. I didn’t know what to do and thought about canceling the show! But instead I let fate decide, so I flipped a coin and it told me to continue on. I am so glad I did, because it was such a great learning experience. Yes, we certainly had our ups and downs, but I also remember that as one of the best times in my life. Scabies and all! I am so excited to bring what I have learned, and do this show again from a new perspective. I am so thankful for this fresh experience and I cannot wait to present Rumors 10 years later with an amazing and talented cast. I will have to say this show has been one of the best experiences of my life. I would like to thank the brilliant Neil Simon. I will always love and thank him for sharing his stories, laughs and heart-warming cries. He was a big influence in my life and will always be.
